Henry getting in on the sanding action.
This is what happens when you empty out your kitchen. We can only use 1/3 of our living room at the moment.
Our improvised plastic seal. Trash bags and duct tape...all you need.
It got a little hot in here with the plastic blocking all the air circulation.
Sanding done! Patrick is excited because he is about to use a saw.
Well, I think that opens the room up a bit, don't you? After much sawing and calling the cabinet some not-very-offensive names, Patrick finally got it out. Now we have a higher chopping counter we will top with butcher block.
Saying goodbye isn't always that difficult.(That's the oven he's carrying.)
We found this treasure once Patrick and Tony took the countertop off. Too bad the previous owners didn't leave this stuff up. It must have looked faboo with the orange and brown linoleum, blue cabinets, and green oven. (You know I could have made it work.)
Nana contributed her painting expertise to the cabinet interiors. So, I called the countertop people, and they are coming TOMORROW to install the new countertop! Woohoo! That means we will sort of have a kitchen again. I mean, at least we'll have a sink, stove, and cabinets we can use. In the meantime, it is bean soup in the crockpot for dinner and PB&J's for lunch. My kids are drinking more juice boxes this week than they have ever in their entire life. Combined. Total.
What's left, you ask? In no particular order, here is what we still have to do: Buying and installing butcher block; painting exterior of cabinets; painting doors; buying and attaching hardware; installing pendant lights, recessed light, new overhead light, and light over stovetop; tiling backsplash and floors; painting room; putting everything away; a myriad of little things not worth mentioning.
Special thanks to Tony and Jen for dinner last night (Jen) and sanding all weekend (Tony). Also to Nana for endless babysitting and seemingly endless painting and various meals.
